This project began as a continuation of research through design into the entanglement of surfaces and bodies. These two ways of looking offer different readings. The surface is the space of representation - a micron thick layer that voices the object - while the body encompasses a material history; weight and heft. This duality is explored through the unique properties of aluminium foil which at sixteen microns is compressed to create structures and separated to form reflectors.

The surface, layered upon itself, is made into the body for a series of electrical lighting. The designs reference school lunches, the electrical consumption of aluminium production facilities, and emergency blankets among other things.
